Saft’s global approach to sustainable development

At Saft, we support the United Nations’ sustainable development goals and the objectives of the Paris Agreement, which aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to limit the rise in mean global temperatures to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and preferably limit the increase to 1.5 °C.

Our first contribution is the products we develop and manufacture. Thanks to their ability to store electricity in an ever more efficient way, batteries are a key enabler towards a low carbon economy.

Batteries facilitate the shift towards clean mobility, a better integration of renewable energy into the electrical grid, the safe operation of mass-passenger transit systems, the remote and wireless monitoring of distributed assets, and bring countless other services to our daily lives.

However, both the manufacturing of batteries and the management of their end of life pose unique challenges which, if not properly controlled, can have an impact on human health and the environment. At Saft, we are determined to reduce this impact to a minimum whilst respecting social and human rights all along the value chain.

Saft is a battery manufacturer awarded with an EcoVadis platinum medal

Our sustainability performance is assessed every year by EcoVadis, a leading Corporate Social Responsibility ratings provider that has evaluated more than 100,000 companies worldwide. EcoVadis assesses a company’s sustainability management systems based on its policies, actions and reporting, across 21 criteria grouped into four themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Sustainable Procurement and Ethics.

In the 2025 assessment cycle, Saft achieved an overall score of 87/100, placing the company in the 99th percentile of all companies assessed worldwide and confirming the robustness and consistency of its sustainability management systems. This result marks Saft’s third consecutive Platinum medal, reflecting a sustained commitment to continuous improvement year after year.

Saft was among the first companies in the battery industry to receive the EcoVadis Platinum medal, underlining its long‑standing engagement in responsible and sustainable business practices.

Saft has been awarded the Sustainable IT Label, Level 2*.

At Saft, sustainability isn't just a buzzword - it's a core value that guides everything we do. Saft has recently been awarded the Sustainable IT Label, Level 2 by Agence Lucie, a French company specializing in corporate sustainability. This label demonstrates our commitment to green digital practices.

We started with a mission to be greener with our digital practices. We've been able to reduce our energy consumption by optimizing the use of servers, resulting in a significant 10% reduction in our carbon footprint over the last two years.

We've also made some improvements in the way we manage our digital assets. By extending the life of our computers to five years and making sure our smartphones and tablets last even longer, we're reducing electronic waste and fostering a culture of sustainability within our organization. We’re also purchasing second-hand equipment (screens, smartphones, servers).

*This label only applies to our French sites in Levallois, Bordeaux, Nersac and Poitiers, making Saft the first battery company in France to receive this honor.
