Saft strengthens its APAC presence with major BESS project in Taiwan

  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will provide 356 MWh capacity to help Taiwan implement its 2050 net zero strategy

  • Project for Foxwell Power Co is Saft’s 11th contract in Taiwan

  • Cybersecurity capability was a vital factor for Foxwell Power Co to award its fifth consecutive BESS contract to Saft

24 October 2025, Paris – Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has strengthened its presence in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region by winning a major BESS project with Foxwell Power Co in Taichung. The contract will see Saft deliver a 356 MWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery system to Foxwell Power Co (part of Shinfox Energy).

The Taichung BESS will comprise 108 I-Shift Li-ion battery containers that offer a compact installation footprint. The project will contribute to Taiwan's ambitious 2050 net zero strategy and rapidly expanding renewable energy sector by helping to manage intermittency, grid stability and grid congestion. The BESS will provide two crucial functions – frequency regulation and peak-shifting of renewable energy production.

One of the reasons Foxwell selected Saft is the fact that, for them, cybersecurity is a critical factor and Saft met the challenge with a solution that embeds control hardware and software from module to system level. This system control solution entirely developed by Saft and manufactured in Europe, integrates AI functionality and is certified against the highest cybersecurity standards.

The Taichung project will start at the end of 2025 and continue throughout 2026.

This fifth consecutive contract with Foxwell is the largest to date and will bring our installed base in Taiwan to 630 MWh. The key to this success is the mutual trust we have developed over several years of successful joint projects.
