Saft launches OptiLife for smarter, more predictive battery management

  • New embedded OptiLife delivers real‑time, highly accurate State‑of‑Charge (SoC) insights for industrial and IoT batteries

  • Saft’s patented algorithm models the effects of self-discharge and temperature with a level of accuracy that can reach 95%

  • Enhanced predictability and fleet optimization thanks to continuous monitoring and advanced battery aging analytics

  • Lower operational costs through reduced service visits, fewer premature replacements, and minimized device failure risk

April 9, 2026. Paris - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, announced today the launch of  OptiLife, an innovative embedded electronic circuit designed to optimize battery life expectancy. This breakthrough solution provides unparalleled visibility into the State of Charge (SoC) of industrial batteries powering connected devices and largescale IoT deployments. OptiLife represents a major step forward in predictive maintenance, device reliability, and fleet optimization across a wide range of applications, including smart metering, asset tracking, transportation, and industrial IoT systems.

This new generation of embedded battery intelligence is engineered to be integrated directly into Saft’s large primary lithium batteries. Once installed, it provides real-time, highly accurate insights into the battery’s state of charge throughout its lifecycle. Designed for demanding environments, the card supports voltages from 4 V to 50.4 V (2 to 14 cells in series) and operates from -40°C to +85°C, ensuring reliable performance even under extreme conditions.

By integrating OptiLife into their devices and battery fleets, customers benefit from a wide range of high‑value advantages. Its real‑time accuracy and continuous monitoring of current, voltage, and temperature ensure that operators always have a clear, up‑to‑date view of their battery assets. The solution also enables true predictive maintenance. With precise insights into battery aging and consumption patterns, maintenance actions can be planned proactively, minimizing downtime and extending the operational life of the devices. It eliminates unnecessary service visits, prevents premature battery replacement, and reduces the risk of unexpected device failures. Whether managing a few devices or thousands of connected units, OptiLife delivers the critical data needed to make informed, cost‑efficient decisions.

“As IoT ecosystems expand, operators need accurate and reliable ways to monitor energy consumption and anticipate maintenance,” said Olivier Girard, Saft battery development manager “With OptiLife, Saft is setting a new benchmark for battery intelligence and fleet performance.”

At the heart of OptiLife lies a patented Saft algorithm that is the result of two decades of technological leadership in LS and LSH  chemistry.

This proprietary algorithm uniquely accounts for:

  • Self-discharge during storage,
  • Self-discharge during device operation,
  • The impact of temperature,
  • Low background currents, even below 100 mA.

OptiLife offers a robust design that can be encapsulated in resin inside the battery pack for enhanced durability. Developed and produced in Saft’s factory in Poitiers (France), OptiLife is now available for integration into industrial devices equipped with LS and LSH batteries.
