Saft launches Flex’ion™ Gen3, redefining performance and reliability for UPS systems

July 29, 2026, Paris – Saft, a wholly owned subsidiary of TotalEnergies, has launched Flex’ion™ Gen3, the latest generation of lithium-ion batteries designed to ensure the highest level of continuity for data centers and other mission-critical UPS applications such as industrial processes and sensitive infrastructure. Engineered to combine enhanced performance, reinforced safety, compactness, and improved competitiveness, this third-generation system builds on the strengths of its predecessors while introducing decisive technological and economic breakthroughs.
Flex’ion Gen3 relies on long-life Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells, chosen for their outstanding performance and proven safety. It meets the industry’s strictest safety requirements that ensure installations remain safe under extreme conditions. The in-house Battery Management System (BMS) is built on the Flex’ion certified system already widely deployed, ensuring the highest levels of electronic control, reliability, and operational safety.
The design of Flex’ion Gen3 has been completely optimized to reduce footprint and simplify the installation. Its compact and robust cabinet is delivered fully assembled, allowing faster commissioning on site. The modular architecture facilitates seamless integration into a wide range of environments such as data centers, railway signaling infrastructure and critical industrial sites. It offers the flexibility required to address specific customer constraints.
Flex’ion Gen3 has been developed by Saft’s R&D teams in Bordeaux and is manufactured at the company’s facility in Raškovice, Czech Republic. This European footprint ensures faster delivery and high-touch support, backed by dedicated project teams and a Europe-based service organization strengthened by Saft’s global network.
Flex’ion Gen3 introduces significant improvements. Performance has reached a new level: the system delivers 268kW in a 67kWh cabinet, reducing the number of units required for a given UPS configuration. Power density reaches up to 864 kW per square meter, while energy density climbs to 216 kWh per square meter — an increase of approximately 30% in power and a tripling of energy density compared with Flex’ion Gen2.
For the most sensitive installations, safety can be enhanced through the integration of an optional fire suppression system directly within the cabinet. Flex’ion Gen3 also marks a turning point in terms of competitiveness. With the introduction of a new LFP module, offers customers a solution that is more powerful, more compact, easier to integrate, and more affordable.
