Reliable nickel battery backup to ensure power safety to any type of building

Buildings of all types need constant power to ensure safety and functionality.

In the event of an outage, they rely on cutting-edge batteries to deliver vital backup power for critical systems, such as emergency lighting, security systems, and essential equipment. Saft’s high-power batteries are ideal for cranking up an emergency generator engine, thanks to their high discharge capabilities and the ability to recover their voltage instantaneously.

Saft’s nickel battery solutions are robust, easy to install, and offer optimized availability.

Our nickel batteries are extremely reliable and long-lasting, with a life expectancy of more than 20 years. They are also maintenance-free, which all adds up to an optimized total cost of ownership (TCO). Saft's recycles nickel-based batteries at our plant in Oskarshamn. We recover the nickel, cobalt and cadmium for reuse on site, while other metals such as steel and copper, as well as the plastic containers, are sent to third parties for recycling.

Saft's range of advanced and powerful lithium-ion batteries offer high discharge capabilities and instant voltage recovery. They provide an immediate independent source of power in the event of a power failure to ensure UPS continuity, protecting valuable equipment, operations and data. Flex'Ion Super Lithium Iron Phosphate based batteries are ideal for small battery rooms.

Closing the loop on responsible production

Saft operates the only plant in the world that produces nickel-cadmium batteries incorporating metals that have been reclaimed on site from spent batteries, reducing their eco-footprint.  Recycling Ni-Cd batteries is a complex process that involves separating the nickel, cobalt and cadmium from the electrodes, a process perfected by Saft’s plant in Oskarshamn, Sweden – the only one worldwide involved in both the recycling and manufacturing of Ni-Cd batteries and incorporating recycled metals.

Saft operates a network of over 30 bring back points worldwide that receive spent Ni-Cd batteries produced at Saft factories, as well as those made by its competitors. The bring back point located in northern Europe brings these used batteries back to Oskarshamn, minimizing transportation. Other bring back points work with other fully permitted recycling partners selected by Saft to ensure that the recovery rates mandated imposed by the EU battery directive are met.
