When the grid cannot absorb all the electricity generated, for example from renewable sources, the challenge is to store the energy for later use. 

That's where Saft batteries play a critical role. Saft supports customers from the inception to the implementation and operation of their energy storage systems. Saft designs the optimal system solution in terms of installed power (MW) and energy (MWh) to enable stacking of multiple services with high daily energy turnover.

A deep understanding of aging mechanisms enables Saft to model, predict and control battery health, even under complex and evolving operating patterns. In this way, Saft ensures and guarantees effective operation over the lifetime of the system to secure long-term project returns for customers.

Saft provides turnkey solutions up to hundreds of MW, integrating a Saft lithium-ion battery system with power conversion devices, power control and energy management functions.

Saft's developments comprise two main product lines: Intensium® Shift for 2 to 8 hour energy shifting applications and Intensium® Max for 1 to 2 hour dynamic grid services. 

Grids need to cope with increasing amounts of distributed, variable renewable energy generation.

Saft’s battery energy storage solutions are capable of stacking multiple grid services, including;

47MW is the Guinness World Record for Saft's first grid-supported BESS installed in Alaska in 2003. The system is still in operation today and has prevented thousands of power outages in the harshest Arctic conditions.
