Energy Storage Systems (ESS) are key to the energy transition, enabling electricity systems to cope with production, transmission and use of large amounts of variable renewable energies.
For more than a decade, Saft has been providing complete storage solutions up to hundreds of MWs that integrate a Saft lithium-ion battery system with power-conversion devices as well as power control and energy management functions.
Saft has successfully implemented these battery storage systems in various projects around the world. For example, in Texas, Saft provided battery storage systems to store energy from solar panels, and in Sweden, they replaced diesel generators with battery storage systems for data center backup power. Additionally, Saft's battery energy storage systems have been installed in numerous projects to support the grid when needed.
Saft’s lithium-ion energy storage systems batteries are used for:
- Large renewable integration (PV and wind farm) installations
- Grid management and grid support functions including ancillary services
- Data Centers
- Microgrids and end-user energy optimization schemes

Technology
Our range of Intensium® battery containers are fully developed and qualified by in-house engineering teams and are manufactured and assembled in Saft factories.
Since the first Intensium Max left our factory in 2012, we have increased by 10 the energy density of our lithium-ion 20-foot containers, from 0.5 MWh to 5.1MWh.
