As IoT innovation accelerates, developers are under increasing pressure to define their products quickly and accurately - especially when it comes to energy requirements. That’s why Saft has introduced its new Online Project Specification Request (Online PSR) tool. It’s designed to make battery specification simpler, smarter, and more collaborative.
Traditionally, a Project Specification Request (PSR) is the process through which customers share detailed information about their electronic design with Saft’s team of application engineers. This includes specifics on how the device will operate, where it will be deployed, its energy consumption profile, and expected lifetime.
PSRs are particularly valuable for projects that are still early in development - whether the first connected product of a dynamic start-up or the result of a new direction for well-established organisations. At this stage in the design process, product specifications are often still evolving. Getting the energy requirements right is critical because battery choice directly impacts performance, reliability, and total lifetime cost.
In the past, this process was managed via a spreadsheet that, while effective, relied on manual exchanges and iterative clarification between our customers and engineers.
A smarter, guided approach
The new Online PSR transforms that experience. Hosted within Saft4U (login to a Saft4U account is required), the tool guides users step-by-step through defining their application’s energy and power needs. Customers are prompted to specify operating conditions, usage patterns, environmental constraints, and energy consumption behaviour.
Thanks to an intuitive online format, the tool ensures nothing important is overlooked. Once completed, the form is automatically sent to Saft’s application engineers, who can immediately begin assessing the most suitable solution. That might be an existing cell from our range, a battery pack configuration, or a fully customised design.
It also makes it easy to visualise an application’s energy profile and requirements before submission, helping customers to validate their assumptions. The full specification can also be downloaded as a PDF for documentation and sharing purposes.

Supporting every stage of development
The Online PSR forms part of a growing suite of digital tools available through Saft4U, all designed to help customers tap into Saft’s technical expertise throughout the design process – including the recent introduction of the Book Your Technical Deep-Dive tool that offers direct access to Saft’s technical experts.
Isabelle Sourmey, Business Applications Manager in Saft’s Connected Smart Energy Division at Saft, explains, “We now have tools that support customers at different stages of their product lifespan.”
“The Saft Smart Selector is ideal at the very outset, helping steer developers towards optimal battery technologies based on key parameters. With Book Your Technical Deep-Dive we offer customers the chance to draw on Saft’s expertise and gain contextual guidance to help refine their design.”
“The Online PSR is ideal for later in the development phase when the electronic design is finalized. It creates a structured dialogue around the application’s detailed energy profile and gives our application engineers exactly what they need to confirm the required battery solution and get an accurate lifetime estimation – setting customers up for the next step of industrializing their product.”
Beyond these tools, Saft offers additional services such as its Meter Life Analysis Service, the recently launched Cell Prototyping Service, and LiSa, the world’s first predictive service for providing a reliable estimate of the remaining life of a primary lithium battery powering an IoT device.powering an IoT device.
