The challenge: powering a fully developed IoT platform that can be adapted to any customer needs
Moviot is a complete IoT Platform created by Xtel Wireless, a Danish research and development company created in 2005, that provides wireless and Internet of Things solutions.
Moviot allows Xtel Wireless to design a full IoT solution in no time and to embed it into their customers products. Hardware components (gateways, NFC reader and various smart sensors…) are proposed as off-the-shelf products that can then be tailored to the customers’ specific needs.
Focusing on low-power design, communication protocols rely on proven and widely available data networks. The battery-powered gateway communicates to the customer’s cloud using various mobile technologies — 5G; NB-IoT/LTE-M and even the upcoming 6G network. It can be combined with any of the system’s Bluetooth sensors: accelerometer, thermocuppler, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, moisture detector, activity sensors... and be integrated into any existing product or data management platform.
This robust system has been specifically developed for industrial applications, to monitor activity in places that are hard to reach like wells, ingrounds or cooling containers.
In a nutshell, Moviot is an all-purpose monitoring platform, the only one you’ll ever need to build any smart application.
But how do you choose a battery when you don’t know where the device is going to be deployed, and how it will be used?
The solution: Saft LM 17500 Li-MnO2 and Saft LS 14250 Li-SOCl2 primary lithium batteries
Xtel Wireless first developed the product using competitor’s batteries, but the tracker consumed too much energy and the PCB was draining the battery. One of Xtel Wireless’s customers needed the device to last longer and they wanted the best batteries on the market. Xtel Wireless did a thorough investigation of available batteries and tested them all extensively.
Saft batteries were the best for the application by adding 30-40% capacity compared to the previous cells. The LM 17500 was chosen for the wireless gateway, a powerful solution that offers high pulse capability for an instant connection to the network. It now offers 8 to 10 years lifetime in the field. The compact LS 14250 have been chosen to equip several of the sensors that can now offer 6 to 8 years lifetime whilst communicating every 10 seconds.
Today, many Moviot devices are deployed in the field. For the ones powered by Saft batteries, Xtel Wireless hasn’t recorded any returns or complaints from their customers since its launch.
When you don’t know where your devices are being deployed, you must have complete trust in your battery, know that it will sustain any kind of conditions (or almost any kind!). With Saft, we found the best batteries and we have been using them ever since. If you are looking for a sturdy and durable solution, this is the pack to use.
